Special Reserve No.2

VINTAGE MUSK EXTRACT (1960s) - ETHIOPIAN CIVET - KOH KONG OUD – AMBERGRIS

My first impressions tell me that this is oud, but also that it is not oud.  There is something extra in here that makes this one of the finest olfactory experiences that money can buy.  The oud is wedded to ambergris and deer musk that results in a primordial incense note. Imagine the deepest, most incense heavy Cambodi and dial it to the maximum incense level.  Given the harmony of how these ingredients display, it amazes me that this attar was blended in 2024. Special Reserve No.2 has the characteristics and hallmark of a vintage attar.  

This phenomenon where the different constituents in an attar become subsumed into one another is normally a hallmark of vintage attars typically 20+ years or older. So, I am genuinely surprised that it has been achieved with the Special Reserve No.2 in the space of a few months. It’s probably the exclusive 1960’s Musk and Civet extract from Grasse, France that we managed to source!  No expenses were spared for this utter. Absolutely no expense whatsoever.  Deer musk grains from Kashmir and vintage Siberian deer musk grains bought in 2012 that is acknowledged as one of the finest musks by the cognoscenti in recent years. I've compared the 2012 batch to ones I bought in 2016 and 2017 and these are hands down far better in terms of olfactory strength, projection and complexity

As mentioned in the description for the Special Reserve No. 1, I've been collecting natural aromatics for over 15 years now and I had olfactory heirlooms that I were meant to be passed down as part of an olfactory library.  I never intended to use them for anything, until I decided to create the first Al Hashimi attars since our inception in a moment of madness. 

All this results in what can only be described as an oud perfume with sweet, smooth, pipe smoke with red Koh Kong incense replacing the tobacco, but retaining the smoothness of the finest tobacco pipe smoke. The red glow of a warm Koh Kong oud profile continues to emanate from my wrist literally hours after the first swipe.
