Darussalam

Darussalam is one of those oils that hardly ever comes around. Distilled in Brunei back in 1997 by a master distiller whose work is sought after by the ruling families of the Gulf, it opens with a raw, almost primordial oud note - ancient, grounding, and deeply spiritual. The ambience it creates carries a sense of dignity and timelessness that you simply can’t fake.

At first, it shares some DNA with the legendary “Tigerwood” oils of 1990s Malaysia being resinous, majestic, and powerful. But soon it leaves that profile behind, stepping into a world that is unmistakably Bruneian: refined, profound, and full of character that no other region can replicate.

We don’t have much of this oil, and that makes it even more special. Since 2018, across an inventory of over 250 current oils and more than 400 oud oils that have passed through our hands, we have only ever offered one other Brunei oil - Na’ima. Darussalam is the second. That alone should tell you how rare and unattainable Bruneian oud truly is.

Although few can match the trillionaire rulers of the Gulf in cars or other trappings of wealth, this is a chance to experience the very same calibre of scent they wear, with the kind of olfactory luxury reserved for the most discerning.

Darussalam is destined to sit on the shelves of the new Al Hashimi when we relaunch as a luxury brand, where it will be offered at a significantly higher price that reflects its true value. For now, this is a rare opportunity to own a piece of history: a vintage Brunei oud of unmatched pedigree and spiritual depth.
